But that doesn’t work. Why do you think that is? Maybe the people who want to lose weight don’t follow this advice? Maybe they really want to, but they are mentally weak?

However, there are doctors who are obese. And if we consider the self-discipline and dedication needed to complete an undergraduate degree, medical school, internship, and everything else, we can no longer accept the idea that overweight doctors simply don’t have the willpower to follow their own advice.

So, we should ask the most important questions regarding any disease: what causes it? Many people don’t spend time thinking about this question because they think that they already know the answers. They think it’s about Calories we consume vs. calories we burn.

We believe that if the number of calories we take is more than the number of calories we burn, we gain weight.

We believe that if we eat too much and exercise too little, we gain weight.

These “truths” seem so evident that we do not ask if they are actually true. But are they?

Of course, excess calories can make you gain weight but is the primary/ the main cause?

If there is a new disease, and we are looking for a medication, we should direct the treatment against the primary cause, instead of the 3rd or 4th cause.

You understand what I mean? For example: It’s very hot in your house. The primary cause is that there might be a lot of heat energy coming in. And the solution will be to switch on the air conditioner.

Why Losing Weight Is Not the Same as Eating Less?

• To lose weight, you do not have to create an energy deficit.

• Over time, your body will use more energy than it receives from food and drink to decrease the energy stored in your body naturally.

But knowing this principle is very different from making it easy to follow.

“Just eat less” leaves out almost everything that determines whether someone can actually maintain that deficit.

The problem with simply eating less:

-You can reduce your portions dramatically and become extremely hungry.

-You can spend the entire day thinking about food.

-You can lose energy and motivation.

-Eventually, the plan may become so uncomfortable that you abandon it.

-A smaller amount of food isn’t automatically a better weight-loss strategy.

The better question is: “How can I eat fewer calories without feeling constantly deprived?”

This changes the entire approach.

Instead of focusing only on quantity, you start considering:

Protein.

Fiber.

Food volume.

Meal timing.

Food preferences.

Hunger.

Sleep.

Stress.

Daily activity.

The goal is to make the calorie deficit livable.

Not all calories create the same eating experience

*A small amount of an energy-dense food can contain many calories.

*A much larger portion of vegetables, fruit, lean protein, or broth-based foods may contain fewer calories.

*This doesn’t mean one food is “good” and another is “bad.”

It means that the physical experience you get when you eat, can be very different for the same calorie level.

Thanks for reading Late nights early mornings! Banning your favorite foods can make them even more desirable.

A sustainable approach is to include treats and enjoyable meals while still controlling your overall intake.

The important question is how those foods fit into the bigger picture.

Exercise changes the picture too

-Exercise can increase energy expenditure.

-Strength training can help preserve muscle during weight loss.

-Walking and everyday movement can contribute significantly over time.

But exercise doesn’t have to become punishment for eating.

The scale doesn’t immediately show what happened because your body weight includes water, food in your digestive system, muscle, and fat.

You can follow your plan perfectly and still see the scale rise temporarily.

That’s why individual weigh-ins can be misleading.

A sustainable calorie deficit is more useful than an extreme one

*A very aggressive restriction may produce rapid initial changes.
